Adams Horse and Pet Supplies was orginally started as a holistic pet food store founded by Merance Adams in 1997. Merance took an interest in pet food ingredients after losing several beloved dogs to cancer. What she learned was that many commercial dog foods, even one she'd purchased from her own vet, were full of chemicals, by-products, low-quailty meats from diseased animals, carcinogens, and other horrific ingredients. She went on a quest to educate the public and create a pet food store that only carried food free of these harmfull ingredients. Several years later, after the Adams moved from Florida to Maine, Merance became frustrated trying to buy items for her horses locally. The local tack shops were small and had a limited selection. When she ordered from some of the big online companies she found the customer service insufferable. The shipping charges were outrageous. If she wanted her order processed in a timely fashion, she had to pay extra! Returns were not processed until she called, complained, and provided UPS documentation that the item had been returned. The staff answering the phone at the big tack shops didn't have the slightest idea about the products they were carrying. Merance decided that she could do better.... What began as "a few horse products" is now the largest tack shop in Maine, but the good news is that it's still small enough that you get a real person when you call or email!
